In IELTS General Writing Task 1 candidates are asked to write a letter. There are several different types of letter that can be asked for in the IELTS test; one of them is a complaint letter, to deal with a faulty product purchased or bad service received. Many candidates do not have a lot of experience writing a complaint letter, in fact many native English speaking people do not write complaint letters nowadyas since most companies deal with complaints by phone, website or live chat.

You can use a simple model complaint letter or template as a guide and adapt it to suit the exact situation using the details stated in the IELTS General Training Writing Task 1 instructions. Practice your letter writing skills by using different details and descriptions and varying the content of the complaint letter a little until you feel confident about using the language and vocabulary.
