British Council IELTS Scholarship Award

The main objective of the British Council IELTS Scholarship Award is to support Indian students who are interested in studying in an English-speaking country. The British Council also hopes that it will help India’s young people in achieving their life goals.

The scholarship awards eight IELTS candidates the sum of INR 300,000 each to help with tuition fees for the course they choose to follow.

Who can apply for the British Council IELTS Scolarship?

You can apply for the IELTS scholarship if you:
  • are a resident or citizen of India
    have recently done the IELTS test through the British Council
    obtained an overall minimum IELTS band score of 6.0
    have a valid acceptance / offer letter for a course of study at a recognised educational institution which uses IELTS as part their criteria for admission
    plan to start under graduate or post graduate studies abroad in the 2014 academic year

Earlier this year, the 2013 IELTS Scholarship awards ceremony was hosted by Sam Harvey and Sarah Deverall (Director of Exams) for British Council India, among others, in Mumbai. The ceremony celebrated the success of the eight scholarship winners where each of them was presented with a cheque for INR 300,000 to help finance their tuition costs at the overseas university they had chosen to study at. In addition to receiving a cheque, each winner was presented with a trophy to mark the special occasion and also interviewed by the media and given an opportunity to talk about their ambitions and plans for the future.
