IELTS 2014 on MOOCs

The Future of English Language Learning and IELTS

The British Council and Future Learn are partnering to bring English language learning to India through MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). The British Council already provides English language courses in traditional classroom settings in many countries around the world.

However, 2014 will see the launch of English language courses using a MOOC platform, a first for MOOC providers. English learners can expect a wide range of courses to be available including material designed for English learners planning to study courses of higher education which are presented in English. This will be of interest to the many English learners who plan to apply to study or work overseas in universities in the UK, Australia, Canada and the US in particular.

It has also been reported that IELTS assessments will be made available through MOOCs in the future. IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is used as part of entry requirements for foreign students wanting to study at universities in English speaking countries as well as for immigration purposes. The British Council already has a well established network of IELTS test centers throughout the world.

The British Council is registered as a charity in the UK and is responsible for promoting British culture and educational opportunities overseas. The IELTS exam has seen rapid growth over recent years and is highly respected by higher education institutions as well as government immigration agencies in English speaking countries.

Partnering with Future Learn, owned by The Open University in the UK, which has 29 partners including Monash University will provide even further opportunities for English learners to take advantage of high quality English language courses, and also provide wider access to some of the world-class UK education institutions.
