10 Top IELTS Tips For Reading Test 2014

IELTS Reading Test: Top 10 Tips

Here are some of the best tips for improving your performancein the IELTS Reading test. Try to practice these tips during your IELTS preparation course or when usinf IELTS practice tests so that you become familiar with the techniques.

1. You must practice reading different types of texts in English to improve your reading speed, vocabulary and comprehension.

2. First, read each question carefully before reading the text. You will find the answer more easily. You should underline any possible answers in the text as you read.

3. Read the text quickly once to get a general idea of the content. Do not worry about vocabulary you may not understand. Read the question again before reading the text in detail and looking for the answer.

4. The answer is always in the reading text. You do not have to use general knowledge to answer any questions in the IELTS Reading test.

5. Spelling is important! If you need to copy words from the text for the answer make sure your spelling is accurate.

6. Sometimes a question is about the general topic of a text or paragraph. You should underline key words or ideas in each paragraph to help you understand the main idea/meassage of each paragraph and the whole text.

7. Mark any important data or information such as dates, times, numbers in the text as you read. Circle or underline the data so you can find it again quickly if you need the data to answer a question.

8. If you have to put labels on a diagram, the words will be in the text. Make sure you copy the words accurately onto the answer sheet. Remember, spelling is important!

9. If you can’t answer a question, leave it and try to answer the next question. Go back and try any difficult questions when you have finished answering all the questions you can.

10. Write your answers on the Reading test answer sheet. Check your spelling and remember that unlike the IELTS Listening test, there is no extra time at the end of the IELTS Reading test to transfer answers to the answer sheet.
