  • Where would you like to go?
  • What would you like to do?
  • Whom would you go with?
and explain how you usually feel at the end of a day off.

IELTS Sample Answer

If I could choose to do anything … then I would really love to take a helicopter and fly up to the mountains for the day.

I’d probably invite a couple of friends to go with me, and we could stay at my uncle’s mountain lodge. It’s quite large and there’s room for at least 12 or 14 people to stay for a weeks or so.

It’s fully equipped … it has a big kitchen for cooking and entertaining people, a wet bar by the swimming pool; there’s a spacious patio where you can shoot hoops if you want to and a games room where you can play pool or some other games.

We’d probably chill out for a time; we could chat and swim and then have a siesta after swimming. In the winter you can go skiing there, but at this time of year … there’s no snow unfortunately. The pantry is always well stocked though, so we could always cook something really nice for lunch or dinner and then eat it out on the terrace.

There’s a great view from the terrace, it’s really incredible, and as it overlooks the whole valley below … you can see for mile and miles around.

During the day when the sky is clear, when there aren’t a lot of clouds, then it’s really a stunning panorama. At night you can see all the lights of the other houses and cottages down in the valley below.

Sometimes it seems like a sea of lights. It’s stunning!

The little problem with doing a lot of activities on a day off, if you only have one day, is that sometimes you can feel really tired at the end of it – rather than relaxed and refreshed.

Sometimes it’s fun to do a lot of things – but other times it’s just nice to be in a peaceful place, with some good friends, and just relax.

I usually feel really refreshed and ready to go again when I get back home… like disconnecting from everything for a while.

I suppose if I had a couple of days, or more, off – then I’d probably feel like doing some more activities and not just relaxing, but if it’s only one day – then really, I prefer to relax as much as possible… I suppose I can be a bit lazy sometimes.
