Describing Information in a Graph

The graph shows information regarding the transportation of goods in the UK from 1974 to 2002 by four different means: road, rail, water and pipeline. It shows that road transportation accounted for the highest volume of goods transported while transportation by pipeline accounted for the least volume of goods transported.

Some interesting observations include transportation by road, water and pipeline increased overall from 1974 to 2002. However, rail transport represented almost the same volume of goods transported in 2002 as in 1974. There was only a minimal increase by the end of the period, though the volume decreased between 1978 and 1998.

Water transportation was used more than rail by the end of 2002, in contrast to 1974 when it was less used. Meanwhile, road transport experienced the highest overall growth in volume, increasing from 70 million tonnes in 1974 to almost 100 million tonnes by the end of the 28 years.
