Magazines or Newspapers IELTS Speaking Test Band 9 Answer
Well, I don’t usually read magazines or newspapers, but I would like to tell you about a blog post I read yesterday. It was on Seth Godin’s blog. Seth’s an author and has a really interesting blog among other projects, where he writes about a wide range of things – giving his opinion about how people go about different things.
The article I read was particularly interesting because it reminded me of something in my own life, which made it even more relevant and worthy of reading. He was telling a story about the Rolling Stones and how Mick Jagger referred to Charlie watts as ‘his drummer’ and Charlie Watts in return referred to Mick Jagger as ‘his singer’.
The whole point of the story was that different people look at things in a different way or from a different perspective depending on their involvement in a situation. It was really interesting and it made me think.
I found it an amusing and timely anecdote and a reminder that there is always more than one way, or slant, to looking at things. As I said, it reminded me that I had been looking at something in my own life the wrong way, when in fact looking at it form a different perspective it made a lot more sense to me.
I discovered Seth Godin, or rather his blog, a couple of years ago … quite by accident. I came across a video of him, on You Tube, on the Internet and immediately his message resonated with me. I watched another couple of his videos and eventually visited his blog and webpage.
Soon after I read some of his books … I like the way he thinks, and his message about ideas being powerful, but most of all I like his point of view that the industrial era is dead and we now live in a world where the rules and the way we do things have changed dramatically.
When I can, I usually read his blog everyday … his posts are short and succinct so it doesn’t take a lot of time to read them … but they’re always interesting and thought provoking.
