IELTS Writing How to Write an Effective Letter to the Principal

IELTS General Writing Task 1

IELTS General Training Writing Task 1
The local school would like residents in the area to help maintain the school buildings and the grounds.
Write to the school principal. In your letter,
  • say why you want to help
  • explain what help you can offer
  • state when you are available

Dear Principal,

I am writing to offer my help with maintaining the school buildings and the play area. It saddens me that the school's current budget is insufficient to cover such work. But as a parent, I agree that your plan to enlist the help of local residents is a good short-term solution.

As a local contractor, I am sure that I can help with various aspects of building maintenance and have the skills and tools to handle most jobs. I also live nearby and would be happy to lend a hand whenever needed.

I have many years of experience in construction and can help with keeping the buildings and grounds in good condition. I am also available on weekday mornings from 9 am to 12 pm.

Please let me know more details about what needs doing.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Your name
