Renewable Energy Essay - Are alternative energy sources viable?

Renewable Energy Essay

Renewable Energy Essay
As the world looks to renewable energy sources to replace fossil fuels, some people are hesitant.
What is your take on this development? Is it positive or negative, and why?

Renewable Energy Essay Answer

There is no question that petroleum products have been significant and vital sources of energy in many areas of the world. But a few countries have begun to focus more on the use of renewable sources of energy. These include hydroelectric, solar, wind, tidal and geothermal, which is a positive development.

The most compelling reason for using renewable energy sources is that traditional sources such as oil, gas, and coal are non-sustainable. These sources take many years to form yet the current rate of consumption is excessive. This implies that the time will come when such sources are exhausted. It is therefore important to find alternatives that will take their place.

The alternative is to use solar, wind, hydroelectric, biomass, and geothermal energy. These sources are renewable and will not suffer from depletion. More governments must take steps to further develop the use of such energy sources.

For example, solar power does not produce carbon emissions, which is a major contributor to climate change. In contrast, coal-fired power plants release large amounts of carbon dioxide and other pollutants into the atmosphere. Solar power is also a very versatile source of energy. It can be used to generate electricity, heat water, and provide light.

Wind power is another renewable energy source that has great potential. Wind turbines can be used to generate electricity, and they are becoming increasingly efficient. In some parts of the world, wind power is already the cheapest source of electricity.

Hydropower is another renewable energy source with much potential. Hydroelectric dams can be used to generate electricity, and they have very low operating costs. In addition, hydropower does not produce carbon emissions.

Biomass is another renewable energy source that can be used to generate electricity and heat. Biomass is any organic matter that can be used as fuel. This includes wood, crop residues, and even municipal solid waste. Biomass can be burned to generate electricity or heat or it can be converted into biofuels such as ethanol or biodiesel.

One of the advantages of biomass is that it is a carbon-neutral fuel source. This means that when biomass is burned, it does not release any new carbon into the atmosphere.

Another significant advantage that non-traditional energy sources offer is that they do not contaminate nature. Carbon dioxide and other side effects from the use of petroleum products and the burning of fossil fuels cause unnatural weather changes and harm to the defensive ozone layer.

If the necessary advances are not taken towards the optimization of renewable energy, it is likely that in the future the entire earth will become uninhabitable for humans.

Despite the need to transition to renewable energy sources, there are a few obstacles. For example, the initial expense of constructing and installing solar panels and wind farms is high. There are also limitations on the amount of land available for such use. Nonetheless, after the initial expense, regular maintenance costs are negligible.

The adoption and optimization of renewable energy sources is a positive improvement. A step in the right direction. Moreover, it should be a priority to invest more resources into such innovation. This will help to solve the future energy requirements of the world population.
