How to Tackle IELTS Task 2: University Funding

1. Understand the Question

  • Read carefully: Figure out what the question is really asking. Does it want your opinion or just a discussion of both sides?
  • Key words: Find important words like "university students," "full cost," "benefits," "individuals," and "society."

2. Plan Your Essay

  • Brainstorm: Quickly write down ideas for both sides of the argument.
  • Choose a side: Decide if you agree or disagree, or if you think it's a mix.
  • Make a plan: Decide what your main points will be.

3. Write Your Essay

Introduction:
  • Rephrase the question.
  • Clearly state your opinion.
  • Briefly mention your main points.
Body Paragraphs:
  • Start each paragraph with a topic sentence.
  • Give examples and details to support your ideas.
  • Use linking words to connect your ideas.
Conclusion:
  • Restate your opinion.
  • Summarize your main points.
  • Offer a final thought or suggestion.

4. Writing Tips

  • Time management: Spend about 40 minutes on this task.
  • Vocabulary: Use a mix of simple and complex words.
  • Grammar: Check for errors in grammar and spelling.
  • Practice: Write as many practice essays as you can.
Avoid These Mistakes:
  • Off-topic: Don't write about things not related to the question.
  • One-sided: Talk about both sides of the argument, even if you disagree with one.
  • Overly complex: Keep your writing clear and easy to understand.
  • No examples: Use real-life examples to support your points.
