Nowadays, leisure products and modern gadgets are widely used by young people. The use of these technological gadgets reduces the creativity of the young generation. Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Do modern gadgets reduce the creativity of young people?

While undoubtedly there is an ever-growing number of leisure-oriented products and modern technology devices that are popular among the younger generation, it is not necessarily the case that such things make young people less creative. Quite the contrary, young people are probably more creative than ever now – and can express themselves to a much wider audience.

Creativity takes many forms; although some traditional creative pastimes such as drawing, painting, or photography may not be so popular these days, young people are creative in other new and innovative ways. For example, young people are very active on social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. YouTube, in particular, has seen an explosion of very young ‘content creators’ who are producing, editing, and starring in their short videos. Some of these YouTubers produce high-quality video content on just smart phones and have millions of followers. Video production is a creative activity that previous young generations were not involved with. Producing videos was the domain of professional media companies and production specialists.

Another example is blogging and vlogging, which are again dominated by today’s younger generation and serve as a creative outlet for them. Previously, an individual found it challenging to publish a book unless a publishing company accepted their manuscript. However, today anyone can express themselves on a diverse range of topics through their blog or vlog. Again, these creative productions garner followers among the millions for those creators who produce content that resonates with a young generation worldwide.

Overall, today’s young people are no less creative than young people, or people in general, in the past – it is simply that their outlet for creativity has changed and become more accessible to everyone. Greater access creates the level of personal creativity we know today, something unthinkable just a few decades ago.
